Meleagris gallopavo osceola. Osceolas exist only on the Florida peninsula — south of the panhandle line. Because they're geographically isolated, they're the most sought-after bird for Grand Slam hunters and are usually harvested on a dedicated trip.

How to identify a Osceola

• Wing primaries almost entirely black with very little white barring.
• Dark overall plumage, closer to an Eastern in body tone.
• Long, straight spurs — some of the longest spurs of any wild turkey.
• Slimmer body size than an Eastern; long legs suited to palmetto and cypress swamp.

The distinguishing detail on an Osceola mount is the wing — the almost-solid-black primaries with minimal white barring must be preserved and set correctly. Spurs are the second signature detail; we condition them carefully to keep true color and edge. Osceola habitat bases often incorporate palmetto fronds, cypress knees, or oak leaf litter to reinforce the Florida character.
